DP World Takes Over Six UK Grocery Logistics Sites From GXO

DP World has agreed to take over six contract-logistics sites in the UK from GXO Logistics, expanding the Dubai-based ports and logistics group's grocery warehousing footprint in Britain. The agreement was announced on 6 August 2026.

The sites, five in England and one in Northern Ireland, comprise more than two million square feet of warehouse capacity and around 2,000 personnel, and serve grocery customers including Asda, Sainsbury's and the Co-op. The operations are due to transfer to DP World in September.

The transaction deepens DP World's push into UK contract logistics, complementing its port and freight assets with temperature-controlled and grocery-focused warehousing. It fits a wider strategy of moving beyond ports into end-to-end supply-chain services, from terminals and trucking to storage and last-mile fulfilment.

The grocery deal is one of several expansion moves by the group in 2026. DP World has said it plans to invest around $3 billion across the UAE and other key markets during the year, targeting geographies including the UAE, India, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and has separately added trucking capacity and cold-chain capabilities in Europe.

For GXO, the transfer allows it to reshape its UK portfolio, while DP World gains scale with established grocery clients in a mature logistics market. The move reflects how Gulf operators are using acquisitions to build integrated logistics networks that span multiple continents.
