Egypt's Thndr Raises $15.7m to Expand Digital Investing Across MENA
The Cairo investment app lands fresh capital led by Prosus to deepen its UAE presence and enter Saudi Arabia.
Egyptian investment app Thndr has raised $15.7 million in a funding round led by Prosus, capital it will use to expand its digital investing offering across the Middle East and North Africa. The round was announced in May 2025.
Support for the round came from Y Combinator, BECO Capital, Endeavor Catalyst, JIMCO, Raba, Onsi Sawiris and others, bringing Thndr's total capital raised to more than $37 million. The company said it plans to deepen its operational footprint in the UAE and accelerate its entry into Saudi Arabia, while continuing to build out products for retail savers and investors.
Thndr has emerged as one of Egypt's largest digital platforms for savings and investment, offering commission-conscious access to stocks, funds and other instruments through a mobile-first experience aimed at a young customer base. The company has reported strong growth in users and assets under management, and has secured regulatory approvals that broaden the products it can offer.
The raise reflects continued investor interest in Egyptian fintech despite a tighter regional funding environment, and in particular in platforms that are widening financial participation in a market where retail investing has historically been limited. Thndr's expansion into the Gulf pits it against a growing field of regional wealth and brokerage apps.
Backing from a global investor such as Prosus gives Thndr capital and credibility as it moves beyond its home market, part of a broader push by Egyptian startups to scale regionally and diversify beyond the Egyptian pound.
