Bahrain's Investcorp Takes Strategic Stake in UAE IT Distributor Metra
The alternative-investment manager buys into Metra, deepening exposure to the Gulf's digital infrastructure and AI supply chain.
Bahrain-based alternative investment manager Investcorp has acquired a strategic stake in Metra, the UAE-headquartered IT distributor, in a deal that strengthens its exposure to the Gulf's expanding digital-infrastructure, artificial-intelligence and cybersecurity markets. The investment was announced in June 2026.
The transaction gives Metra its first institutional shareholder and is intended to support the company's expansion across the GCC and the wider Middle East and North Africa, including potential acquisitions and preparation for a possible future initial public offering. Metra distributes hardware, software and infrastructure products, a segment benefiting from surging regional demand for data-centre, cloud and AI-related equipment.
For Investcorp, the deal fits a strategy of deploying capital into Gulf businesses tied to the region's technology buildout. The firm has been active across sectors, closing multiple deals in a compressed period spanning IT, facilities management, industrial property and other assets, even as geopolitical tensions weighed on the regional backdrop.
IT distribution sits at a strategic point in the technology supply chain, connecting global vendors with resellers, system integrators and enterprise buyers. As Gulf governments and companies accelerate spending on digital infrastructure and AI, distributors with scale and vendor relationships stand to capture rising volumes.
The investment adds to a run of Gulf-linked dealmaking in the technology space and gives Metra institutional capital and backing as it pursues growth and a longer-term path toward public markets.
