Seafood Souq and Sharjah Launch UAE's First Digital Fisheries Traceability System
The system generates a QR code for every fishing vessel, tracking catch from boat to point of sale.
Seafood Souq, the UAE-based seafood-traceability platform, has partnered with Sharjah Asset Management to launch what officials describe as the region's first end-to-end digital traceability system for the fisheries sector.
Rolled out at Souq Al Jubail, the system generates a unique QR code for every fishing vessel, allowing instant verification of licence details, catch type, source and quantity from the moment a boat leaves shore to the point of sale.
The launch was accompanied by a strategic agreement to extend the system to Souq Al Jubail sites in Hamriyah and Kalba, with plans to expand across all seven emirates toward a unified national framework for sustainable fisheries.
Officials said the platform had already verified more than 140,500 kilograms of seafood from 139 vessels and 53 species.
